What kinds of things do people bring to hyponotherapy?

People seek hypnotherapy for many different reasons:

Hypnotherapy is usually between one and three sessions, each lasting around 90 minutes. Some people find that one session is enough to stop smoking, change their eating habits, learn to enjoy flying or stop being afraid of spiders! Hypnotherapy and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) is very powerful and can produce astounding changes quickly, but it sometimes takes a few sessions to find the approach that is exactly right for you.

How does hypnotherapy work?

Our minds work on two levels, the conscious and the unconscious. We make decisions and think with our conscious mind while the unconscious mind controls our habits. In the relaxed state known as hypnosis, the therapist communicates directly with the unconscious mind, bypassing all the old resistance to change, and this is what makes it so quick and easy to change habits of a lifetime with hypnotherapy.

The other reason that hypnotherapy works so well is that it is not just about saying no to bad habits. Tilly finds ways to replace bad habits with good ones, which are healthier and help to strengthen your resolve.

Does hypnotherapy work for everyone?

Most people with an average IQ and no mental health disorders respond well to hypnosis. Everyone experiences it differently; some people can remember everything that is said whilst others remember only that they felt comfortable, safe and supported. Hypnotherapy is completely safe - you are in control and can stop the session at any time. Hypnosis is not sleep and you cannot get stuck in a trance. It cannot make you do anything against your will. Importantly, Tilly's method of hypnosis is gentle and respectful, and often fun.

Can I afford it?

The fee for counselling is £50 per session; sessions last for full hour. Evening counselling sessions are available at extra cost.

Hypnotherapy sessions are normally 90 minutes at £75 per session but can take a little longer and are available during the daytime only.

Reduced rates may be available for those on low income or if several sessions are booked in advance - please ask.

Is hypnosis proper therapy?

The American Medical Association (AMA) approved the use of clinical hypnosis in the 1950s, and the British Medical Association (BMA) reported their approval of it in 1953 for specific conditions. Since then, thousands of people have benefited from it as a way to change their life habits and gain control. An important benefit of the way in which Tilly works is that she takes tradition techniques and combines them with NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) to deepen the experience and achieve increased effectiveness.

If you think that you will benefit from Counselling or Hypnotherapy, please call or email Tilly to make an appointment. You may leave messages on the answerphone in confidence and Tilly will call you back using discretion.

If you are not sure whether you want to go ahead, Tilly will arrange an initial session during which you can discuss your concerns and decide whether counselling or hypnotherapy is for you. You can either stay for a full session or leave after 30 minutes. There is a small charge of £20 for an initial session if you decide not to continue.
